Terroir

12" x 16"
Watercolor
"Terroir" is a French term, which means “a sense of place”. It is also used to refer to all of the natural elements that give wine its unique tastes. For this piece, I have tried to capture the taste of the Livermore Valley in California, where grapes grow abundantly. The rolling hills capture some of the Pacific influence, and take on a distinctive dusty purplish cast in the late summer and early autumn. Before the rainy season begins, the vines are golden.
