Beavertail Trail Again

Watercolor on paper
18" x 24"

I found this spot at Borges Ranch in Walnut Creek, CA, along a foot path that is also popular with horseback riders. The old and weathered beavertail cactus plants draping themselves onto the downslope of the trail, and the playful shadows across the path made me want to sit right down there and paint the scene. This I did, interrupted in my work by the occasional horse and rider needing to get by. Later, I made this larger painting from my plein air work and photos that I took.
